This video by the YouTube channel ' Alltime10s' gives information about 10 different, compelling facts about the human brain, many of which are very common and seen in a normal basis.
For me, the fact that stood out the most was Fact #08, "Most memories for adults come from when they were aged between 15 and 25. As a son, I have realized that my mother and father's memories of the past are lucid and etched in their brains, yet what they did last week is forgotten. This led me to ponder upon the cryptic idea of 'why do they remember something from so long ago?' I believe it is because at the ages of 15-25, most teenagers or young adults are in their 'heyday' and not in a state of mind where they are preoccupied with everyday concerns. Thus, their memories are the strongest and when they grow up, it remains that way. You may ask then, 'why do these adults forget things as they grow up?' This brings me to another fact, Fact #09, 'Unless they're interested, adults have an attention span of 20 seconds. Because adults tend to be preoccupied with many things and arguably know too much, they tend to condone and forget things. This can be analogous to a brand new key that is added to a key ring, but is soon lost or its purpose is forgotten because of all the other keys that are in the ring.
Another fact that I am able to relate to is Fact #06, 'Short term memory can hold up to 7 pieces of information at the same time but only for 20 seconds'. This fact is a perfect explanation of how I was able to ace my English Vocabulary quiz with only a minute or two of studying. Albeit I remembered many of the words from past experiences, but the couple of minutes that I was able to study those words freshened my memory and thus, I was able to succeed. However, if I were to take the quiz again now, my memory would most likely not serve me well because of the lack of interest I had had for those words. Therefore, this fact slightly goes hand in hand with the idea that unless you're interested, your attention span is a trivial 20 seconds.
